We have worked very hard to establish a reputation as a great place for Family Medicine training. Certainly the biggest indicator of success has been the excellent group of Residents currently in our program. Our style is that of a collegial approach and we strive to make your experience both enjoyable and of the highest quality.
Our residents tell us they are happy and feel they receive excellent training in our program.
This past year has been one of awards with:
- Dr. Tom Laughlin receiving the Reg L. Perkin Family Physician of the Year Award from the College of Family Physicians of Canada,
- Dr. Laughlin also received a Community of Scholars Award of Excellence from Dalhousie Medical Research Foundation, and
- Dr. Amy Mallory, a past Northumberland resident, won the Doug Mulholland Award.
The Moncton Hospital is home to Dalhousie University's Northumberland Family Medicine Teaching Unit. This fully accredited Family Medicine Residency program also provides undergraduate rotations in most medical specialties to medical students from Dalhousie and Memorial Universities, and elective rotations for medical students from universities across Canada and abroad. The Moncton Hospital offers tertiary services to Eastern New Brunswick, Northern Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island. Despite its size and specialty back-up, family physicians play a central role in patient care and administration. The unique experiences provided at the Moncton Hospital have contributed to the popularity of the Northumberland Teaching Unit.
